Sacred Springs
The Sacred Springs Powwow was a truly memorable experience and a collaborative project I undertook with friends. Each of us brought a different perspective and saw the event through a unique lens. Personally, I was deeply moved by the display of unity, rich traditions, and strong family values rooted in ancestral heritage.
As someone with ancestral ties to Indigenous peoples of Mexico, I felt a profound sense of belonging. The atmosphere was one of mutual respect and shared identity—despite coming from different tribes, everyone came together as one community. Through this experience, I was able to capture and appreciate the cultural values and traditions that are often missing in modern society.
One of the most striking elements was the regalia—each piece worn with pride, symbolizing deep cultural significance and a strong connection to heritage. Witnessing this pride and authenticity was truly inspiring and reaffirmed the importance of preserving and honoring these traditions
One of the primary goals of this project is to continue documenting powwows through photography, while also traveling to other cities with strong cultural and spiritual ties. The aim is to capture meaningful moments and the individuals who keep these rich traditions alive.
